Salivary Gland Neoplasia
Overview |
---|
- Most neoplasias of the salivary glands arise in the parotid glands, some in submaxillary glands, and a few in the minor salivary glands. Malignancy is lowest in neoplasias of the parotid glands, moderate in submaxillary glands, and highest in the minor salivary glands. Therefore, while the incidence of neoplasias are fewer in smaller salivary glands, their risk of malignancy is much higher. Neoplasias of the salivary glands typically occur in adults, display a variety of histomorphologies, and a range of malignant potential.
